Brown Greenwood Theatre
The project proposed the amalgamation of two 1990's lecture theatres into one modern teaching space. Key to the refurbishment of the theatre was to improve the natural acoustics to allow non amplified sound of the lecturer. Careful consideration was given to the layout of ceiling and wall elements to bounce sound waves throughout the space. Materials were selected to control the reverberation time. Perforated plasterboard and timber linings allow the echoes to be reduced. The direct/indirect lighting system was designed to minimise glare by bouncing lighting off adjacent elements. Services, such as sprinklers and air conditioning system was further integrated into the aesthetic of the architecture to create a holistic environment.
