South Lawn Steps
The north-west corner of the South Lawn Steps was originally designed by Rayment and Associate Landscape Architects (RALA) and constructed in 1973. Over the course of 50 years, the condition of the area (structure and surfaces) deteriorated and many areas do not now comply with modern safety standards.
Hatz was asked to upgrade the structures and floor finishes, including brick pavers and bluestone treads, as well as to design new handrails and tactile indicators to bring the entire area up to DDA standards.
Hatz worked closely with Outlines landscape architects to ensure that new hardscape retained its relationship with its natural surrounding as intended in the original design concept by RALA.
