Berkeley Residence Renovation

15 January 2020 |

Nestled in the leafy eastern suburb of Hawthorn, the Berkeley Residence is a peaceful and comfortable three-storey family home.  The original house was built in 1993 by Fasham builders and was modernised by Hatz in 2018.

HATZ were commissioned for their expertise in residential design and their success in renovating period and heritage buildings.  The client’s brief for the renovation was to exercise classical restraint, to have joinery equivalent to a 5-star hotel and to have a natural feeling.  The renovation was carefully designed to reflect the lifestyle and the desires of the family. The materials, colour palette, furniture and lights were carefully chosen to create the comfortable and peaceful atmosphere the clients aspired to.

The use of Blackbutt timber on the floor and the joinery brings warmth and quality to the house. It also creates an elegant contrast with the extensive use of book-matched Calacatta marble. The joinery and buffet furniture throughout the house were custom designed and custom built. It allowed Hatz and the client to have a full control over the look and feel of the different elements, thereby creating a holistic vision of Home.

The technical features were also integrated with care into the design, such as a fully-zoned A/C system, integrated smart intercoms and CCTV security system, the sophisticated AV system in both the living and cinema room, and the climate controlled A/C system for the cellar.

Hatz also re-designed and renovated the indoor swimming pool and the outdoor areas. Following the Feng Shui principles, the new path around the house guides the visitor around the house through different landscape and decorative elements.

Hatz's team and the selected builder worked closely together to achieve a high quality outcome that matched the client's expectations of a practical and beautiful home.
